Oceanfront Lodgings in the Hamptons

The Hamptons have justly earned their reputation as the preferred vacation destination of the rich and famous—a spot favored by the likes of Steven Spielberg and Martha Stewart. Dotted with rolling dunes, unspoiled beaches, and multimillion-dollar mansions, East Hampton manages to suggest both luxury and a kind of seaside quaintness that feels blissfully removed from nearby New York City. In Montauk, the 10 tranquil acres of the Panoramic View Resort spread out alongside a 1,000-foot beach. At Amagansett's Ocean Dunes Resort, a wooden boardwalk stretches toward a 4-acre nature preserve home to several massive sand dunes.

East Hampton, New York: Seaside Hamlets Steeped in History

East Hampton has long drawn notable out-of-towners. In 1945, husband-and-wife painters Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner bought a wood-frame house here, along with a barn that Pollock used as his studio. Both buildings are still standing and have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Other historical structures of note include some holdovers from the colonial era and a handful of wooden windmills. Along Montauk's rocky coast, you can observe seals as they come ashore in colder months to warm up.
