Q:

hello I wanted to ask what airport do I choose to fly to belize and get to this wonderful paradise. Is there another plane I would have to take. PLease advice thank you

Xiomara C.  asked on  Dec 5, 2012

A:

Dear Xiomara, Thank you very much for your interest in our little piece of paradise! We would love to have you with us! You will need to fly into the Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City (BZE). Once you get there, you wil need to either take a water taxi to get to San Pedro or you can choose to come directly to San Pedro by plane. The cost of the flight to San Pedro for the Belize City International Airport is US$135 roundtrip per person and we can assist you with those arrangements if you would like. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Q:

my husband smokes. Can he do this outside of the rooms or does he have to totally get off the property. Neither of us have diving certifications ( I used to years ago) is snorkeling available or only scuba diving. We would be flying from Seattle Washington do you know of any direct flights or the best airlines for me to look into

Jane M.  asked on  Dec 5, 2012

A:

Dear Jane, We do not allow smoking in the room but it is allowed anywhere else on the property. Snorkeling is definitely possible. You can do guided tour or you can use our kayaks and go to Mexico Rocks which is a snorkeling site about 20-25 minutes from Portofino. Snorkeling can also be done under our dock. I don't beleive there are direct flights from Seattle to Belize City. You would have to stop in Houston or Dallas. You can find these flights via American Airlines and United Airlines as they have the most flights out of that area I believe.

Q:

Are taxis readily available to take you from the resort into San Pedro? If so, what does it cost for a one way trip? Can you also tell me how much the water taxi trip from Belize City is? Is there snorkeling from shore or only from boat trips. Thank you!

Deirdre P.  asked on  Dec 5, 2012

A:

Dear Deirdre, The water taxis from Portofino to San Pedro run on a fixed schedule, every two hours from 8:30am-10:30pm. The cost is US$11 one way. As we also pick up arrivals and departures for transfer to the resort, we also have boats going in a few times per day. Our guests are welcomed to get a ride with us on any of these runs. The updated schedule is kept at the Front Desk for any guests that may be interested in hopping in with us. The water taxi from Belize City to San Pedro is about US$15 per person. Snorkeling trips are usually by boat but here at Portofino, we also have complimentary kayaks, and the snorkeling site of Mexico Rocks is about 25 minutes away. You can also snorkel under our dock as there is plenty of marine life there as well. I hop this helps.

Q:

I think I remember your resort offering a Groupon deal in the past year or so... If that's correct, would you please provide me some references? I live in Kansas City area, so any references from the Central section of the U.S. would be appreciated. Divers would be a perk reference as well. I also need to know if you have any airlines that you frequently deal with from the U.S. where you or we would get a deal on airfare from 'MCI' airport. THANK YOU in advance for any helpful information and reference contacts.

Garot P.  asked on  Dec 4, 2012

A:

Dear Garot, This is actually our first offer on Groupon. There are several airlines from the US that fly to Belize regularly: Continental, US Air, American Airline, United Airlines, and TACA. As far as reference contacts, we cannot really release our guests contact information. However you can look at the website for the Belize Tourism Board (www.travelbelize.org) for more information on the country in general. Belize is a diver's paradise. With the Belize Barrier Reef stretching for 185 miles, and with three of the only four atolls in the Caribbean, offshore from Belize, the diving here is, to say the least, simply amazing. The Great Blue Hole, located in the center of the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, is the world's largest underwater sinkhole measuring 1000 feet in diameter and plunging to a depth of over 400 feet. It was made famous by the famous marine explorer Jacques Cousteau on his research ship 'Calypso' in 1972, and is the most well known dive site in Belize. I hope this helps.

Lorraine R.  from  Merchant  replied on  Dec 4, 2012

Q:

Hi Lorraine, Thanks for you answer on the diving but I would also like to know what the prices are for the Atoll dives - both Lighthouse and Turneffe Elbow. It looks like the atoll dives are all day so I don't have any idea how much they would be. Is all diving boat diving or is there shore diving as well? Does the $45 for a tank include a boat trip out to the reef? We have all our own equipment so the rental isn't an issue. Thanks, Marion

Marion R.  asked on  Dec 4, 2012

A:

Dear Marion, The Blue Hole & Lighthouse is US$260 and Turneffe is US$235, plus 12.5% general sales tax. There is also an additional US$40 entrance fee for the Blue Hole. The Atoll dives depart at 5:15am and returns at 5:30pm and the boat ride takes about 2.5 hrs. All the diving is both diving..no shore diving. The rates quoted include the boat trip to the reef. Ambergris Caye is an amazing dive destination as the reef runs parallel with the shoreline. From the beach you can actually see the waves lashing over the reef. Local reef dives are only about 15 minutes away by boat. Let me know if you have any other questions. Lorraine
