Q:

What is the difference between the treetop suite, VIP suite and colonial suite upgrades? I only see cabanas, treetop suites and the honeymoon suite on your website. Also, what would the cost be for two couples and for three couples for the mansion from February 23 through March 2? If we opt to take the plane from Belize City to San Pedro, we catch the plane at Belize City airport? And then you pick us up in San Pedro? I see there is no parking at the resort. Is transportation available for all excursions we might want to take? What about if we'd like to go to the store to stock our mini fridge? Or go to San Pedro to eat/shop? What would the approximate cost for that transportation be? Are there other restaurants nearby? Is the continental breakfast included with the Groupon as it is if you book on your website? How is the weather end of February? Thanks!

A:

Dear Cameron, Thank you for your interest in our little piece of paradise!! The treetop Suites are larger than the beach cabanas and are located on the second floor. The VIP Suites are larger than the treetop suites and are stand alone directly on the beach. For pictures of the different room types, you can email us at info@portofinobelize.com or lorraine@portofinobelize.com. If you do 7 nights with two couples in the Portofino Mansion, you would only need one floor, which has two bedrooms. You can get this option with the purchase of two 7 night groupons. If its three couples, you will need to get both floors and based on the six persons, you would need three 7 night groupons. If you decide to come by plane, you can fly directly from the International Airport in Belize City to San Pedro and one of our representatives will meet you at the airport in San Pedro and transfer you to our resort by boat. We do not have parking as access is mainly by boat. There are lots of excursions and we work with tour companies that pick you up and drop you off by boat right off the end of our dock. There is a water taxi service that goes into San Pedro on a fixed schedule, every two hours from 8:30am-10:30pm. They charge US$11 per person each way. Portofino also picks up and drops off guests arriving and departing and other guests are more than welcome to get a ride on any of these runs. We keep an updated schedule at our reception area for guests interested in using this service. There are many grocery stores in town where you can purchase snacks. Some guests even bring it with them in there luggage from home. Going to town for dinner is also not a problem. Our boat takes our staff back into town every evening and most guests wishing to venture into town would get a ride on this one and then return on the water taxi +$. There are about two other restaurants within walking distance. Continental Breakfast is included. The weather can be unpredictable but February falls in our dry season so little or no rainfall can be expected. During the day the temperature is usually in the low 80s and it gets cooler in the evenings. I hope this information helps.

Q:

I am specifically interested in diving. I looked on the website for the dive shop but can't find prices anywhere. Where are they listed? The packages all include hotel which obviously wouldn't apply with this deal. The dives listed are one and two tank dives and night dives but there are no prices anywhere. Thanks, Marion

Marion R.  asked on  Dec 4, 2012

A:

Dear Marion, The cost for local reef diving is US$45 per tank, plus 12.5% general sales tax. Equipment rental is not included, only tanks and weights. Night dives are usually done at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and the cost is US$75 plus 12.5% general sales tax. Hope this helps.

Q:

1. How much is the 9% hotel tax and the 10% service charge for the 7 night stay? 2. Do you provide transfers from the airport? If not, what does that cost? 3. Are the rooms air conditioned? thank you

Mark M.  asked on  Dec 4, 2012

A:

Dear Mark, The hotel tax and service charge on the 7 Night Stay is US$195.51. We provide transfers from the airport in San Pedro. When you land in Belize City you will need to get to San Pedro Town as this is where we pick you up. There are two options for this, you can take a small plane or you can come by water taxi. The plane is the easiest and most convenient as it is only 15 minutes and there is a flight every hour from 7:40am-5:40pm. The cost for this is US$135 per person roundtrip. We can also assist you with this booking if you would like. If you choose to go by water taxi, then you will first have to take a cab to downtown Belize City. The ride is about 20 minutes and the cost is about US$30. Once you come to the water taxi terminal you can purchase tickets for the next boat. The boat ride is about 90 minutes and is not always comfortable. All our rooms are airconditioned and are fully equipped with free wifi, cable tv, dvd player, hairdryer and a small fridge. I hope this helps :)
