Our room was very cozy although a little smokey smelling. I think the old chimneys are a challenge for some people. We really enjoyed having our breakfast delivered to our room. The dinner was really good as were the breakfasts. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place.

Louisa, Virginia: Historical Sites in the Blue Ridge Foothills

Louisa is set in Virginia’s Piedmont region, amid the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As you drive past farmland along rural Route 15, you’ll pass through the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District. Its 14,000 acres feature 35 homes and other buildings, some from before the Civil War, that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Explore more of the countryside and you’ll find more than 20 vineyards and Lake Anna, where you can fish for largemouth bass all year.

Charlottesville, home to the renowned University of Virginia, occupies an idyllic patch of woodlands about 15 miles from Prospect Hill. With a setting like that, it’s no wonder Thomas Jefferson, William Faulkner, and Edgar Allan Poe all resided here. Thomas Jefferson’s majestic home, Monticello, remains one of Charlottesville’s most visited attractions. An onsite museum chronicles the Founding Father’s history as a statesman and president, and you can take a guided tour of the estate, including the mansion and the gardens.

We had a great stay. The Innskeepers and staff were all very courteous, friendly, and professional. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We loved our nature trail tour guide (Labrador Retriever who belongs to one of staff members who eagerly led us through the onsite nature trail. He stayed with us through the whole trail, playing fetch. Very enjoyable.)

My husband and I visited for the weekend with two other couples. We had a fabulous weekend! Very relaxing and charming stay. We are foodies from Richmond. The meals served were amazing! Presentation was key. We will return for another weekend stay and even take a quick drive for dinner.
