Hotel at a Glance: Riverside: The Inn at Cambridge Springs
With dinner at this inn, you can enjoy a side of murder, music, or laughs. Its 200-seat theater’s roster of shows include Broadway-style musicals, medieval feasts, comedies, and murder mysteries. Or, if you’d prefer to converse over crab-stuffed mushrooms and filet oscar, simply head to the Concord Dining Room. As the name suggests, the property sits along the banks of the French Creek.
Complimentary breakfast is served in the dining room. On Sundays, guests can upgrade to the Sunday brunch buffet ($9 per person).
Victorian furniture and antiques add authenticity to each individually decorated, spacious room, as do the lack of televisions and phones throughout.
Have a drink at the Riverside Lounge.
Historic property: The inn has been in continuous operation since 1885, when it operated as a wellness spa and clinic. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania: Quaint Town and Former Mineral-Springs Spa Town
The town of Cambridge Springs was both put on the map and named after a single, momentous event: Dr. John H. Gray, a local physician, was hoping to strike gold in 1860 when he discovered mineral spring water instead. After testing these waters for medicinal purposes, he proclaimed that the waters cured cases of dyspepsia and kidney and liver disorders. Soon after, it became a popular ‘spa’ town of sorts.
Today, you can learn about all this and more at the Cambridge Springs Museum and History Center. Here, you’ll see a collection of odd and interesting bric-a-brac that includes vintage cheerleading outfits, wooden dolls, and historical photographs. Afterwards, you can relax further with a drink at a handful of bars and restaurants around town.
