Q:

This deal sounds fantastic, however when I researched St. Maarten I found there are CDC warnings in the area for a mosquito-born virus called Chikingunya. Warnings are level 1, meaning take normal precautions. How serious is this and would I be ok just making sure I bring plenty of bug spray?

Ramona K.  asked on  Apr 21, 2014

A:

St. Maarten is a tropical island and therefore has mosquitos. I would just recommend bringing plenty of spray as well as an itch stick to lessen any bites you may incur.

Q:

Hello, I just want to know if it is necessary to apply for a visa before I travel there? I am a US permanent resident (which is known as Green Card), and my passport is from China. Is it ok to be visa-free if I travel there? I am currently living in New York City. Thank you!

Chenghuan T.  asked on  Apr 20, 2014

A:

I checked www.china.nlembassy.org/.../visa...visas/visa-procedure-for-the-caribbean-parts-of- the-kingdom-of-the-netherlands.html and it says that Chinese citizens carrying a Chinese Passport must have a Visa. I suggest you look at this site for any further questions.

Q:

1. Is there a restaurant at the hotel? 2. Are there other restaurants nearby within walking distance? 3. Are restaurant prices considered reasonable or expensive?

Karen R.  asked on  Apr 18, 2014

A:

There is a restaurant and poolside bar on property. There are also restaurants nearby. Pricing seems reasonable and we rarely get any negative feedback about it.

Maria O.  from  Self  replied on  Apr 18, 2014

A:

You can get an understanding of Saint Martin's blend of cultural influences when you consider its restaurant scene; there are more than 400 eateries on the island. Many travelers praise the authentic French cuisine and fine wines at Grand Case Beach Club on the French side, known as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean. Casual barbecue restaurants, known as lolos, are located along the beach and serve up spicy shrimp, ribs, chicken, and heaping helpings of side dishes complemented by guava-berry rum. The quieter Back Street, on the Dutch side, is lined with some authentic Chinese eateries that are typically inexpensive.

Yes, there is also a restaurant at the hotel.
