Contemporary Hotel with Luxury Health Club & Spa

In a recent survey of Dublin's theater scene, the New York Times called the city's top-tier acting and experimental playwriting “refreshingly different.” Located three miles from the city center and near legendary venues such as the Abbey Theatre and the Gate Theatre, the Regency Hotel puts guests within reach of some of Europe's most exciting performances. Several other attractions are also situated nearby, including concert halls, sports stadiums, and the Dublin Writers Museum.

The hotel regularly hosts performances of its own, but it's the five-star health club and spa that steals the spotlight. The modern facility boasts a core-training studio and an indoor swimming pool and offers a range of relaxing spa treatments. The hotel’s trio of dining spots includes The Shanard Restaurant, where you can sample traditional meat and seafood dishes such as a salmon fillet with a chive and bianco vermouth, and a roast rack of lamb with rosemary and red currant jus. Weekly live music and a big-screen TV make Appian Lounge a popular spot for cocktails, and you'll find gourmet coffee, homemade desserts, and an assortment of local artwork at The Gallery Café & Restaurant. Upstairs, standard guest rooms are decorated with a balance of colorful fabrics and dark mahogany furnishings. Some rooms have enchanting views of the city.

One of the purchase options featured in this Getaway offers a slightly different experience, namely in the accommodations. Located 25 minutes south of the city on a sprawling country estate, the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel features Victorian-style guest rooms and views of Dublin Bay. This 4-star hotel is housed in an 18th-century castle, complete with turrets, towers, and a dungeon that’s now home to a fine-dining restaurant. This option also gives guests the opportunity to march in Dublin’s legendary St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As a member of the procession, you’ll join thousands of prideful locals on a 2.5 km march past the city’s most historic landmarks.

Dublin: Multicultural City with World-Class Museums and Traditional Watering Holes

Dublin is a decidedly modern city firmly rooted in its past. While chichi bars and contemporary architecture continue to spring up along the old cobblestone streets, the city’s traditional spirit is still very much alive in Victorian pubs, open-air markets, and 18th-century homes. You can take in a number of Dublin’s most important attractions in the span of an afternoon, thanks to its intimate size and pedestrian-friendly streets. Trinity College, located about 3.5 miles (6 km) from the hotel, is a good place to start. Founded in 1593 by Queen Elizabeth I, it’s the oldest and most distinguished school in the country. The campus is dotted with beautiful Gothic buildings such as the Old Library, where you’ll find the Book of Kells, a lavishly decorated ninth-century manuscript.

The city boasts a number of world-class museums dedicated to everything from Celtic antiquities to leprechaun folklore. More than two million specimens, including some gigantic whale skeletons, are on display at the Natural History Museum. Visitors can sift through diaries, letters, and first editions from Ireland's seemingly endless parade of literary geniuses at the Dublin Writers Museum. At night, head to the pubs near George Street to drink pints of Guinness and listen to traditional Irish tunes played by live musicians, or dance the night away in the famed Temple Bar area.
