Q:

I was thinking about buying this groupon for my husband and I and was wondering if Saturday Oct 20th would be too late to see the fall colors up there? Also would we be close to the wineries on old mission point? Roxann Ushman, West Bloomfield

Roxann, the peak for color at Shanty Creek will be this coming weekend. There may be some fall color hanging on closer to the Lake Michigan by that time, but it will be hard to know for sure with the change in the weather this week (we just got a cold snap). Old Mission Peninsula is approximately a 40 minute drive from Shanty Creek Resorts. If you are interested in booking that weekend, please be sure to call our reservations department at 866.408.5218 to confirm room availability for that weekend. We are filling up fast!

Q:

I am thinking about buying a Groupon for ourselves + 3 kids and a second one for our grown/married child + their three grandchildren and then having us all come up at the same time. I'm wondering how that would work with the Groupon due to the number of bodies we are talking about --- for us, it'd be me, my wife and the three kids (16, 14, 10), and the grown-up child/spouse and three kids (4, 2, and infant). Is this doable with two Groupons, and what if any "upcharges" would there be?

A:

We would recommend that you plan for 3 rooms to give each person (or close to) a bed. Technically you can book a guest room for that many people and if the little kids don’t mind sleeping together, they will be ok - although they will be pretty packed in the room. Rollaway beds are also available for $20/bed per night. Q:

Are the workout and pool areas wheelchair accessible? Just wondering if the fun areas of the hotel would work for a disabled person. Thanks.

A:

Shanty Creek's workout area is located right in the same doorway as the wheelchair accessible entrance. There is a smaller jacuzzi pool located in the fitness center/spa that has a wheelchair lift there (if needed). Access to both is complementary to resort guests. The main indoor pool is a bit difficult to access by wheelchair (although it can be done) and also has a wheelchair lift there too (if needed). This would best be accessed by driving on a private service drive to get you next to the pool entrance (or) if the weather is nice you could be roll your chair down the service drive (the front desk could assist you with directions.)

A:

Peg, half of the hotel is wheelchair accessible. We have two entrances to the hotel - the front desk/check-in area entrance is not easily accessible by wheelchair (we're currently working on installing an elevator at this area), but the lodging portion is very accessible. So, if someone is traveling with you and can check in for you, that would be ideal. When you are making reservations, please make sure to let the reservations staff know you need a wheelchair accessible room. You can contact reservations by calling 866.408.5218.
