Oregon-Coast Hotel Overlooking the Ocean

Lincoln City used to be a collection of separate small villages strung along the coast. In 1964, the villages came together—but the resulting sprawl lacked a town center, so businesses such as outlet malls, casinos, and antique shops clustered around the offshore reefs instead. Among them is the Shearwater Inn, which sits just north of the D River in the heart of Lincoln City.

The inn is a short walk from the shore, where glass floats frequently drift ashore and migrating gray whales can be spotted year-round (the prime whale-watching season is November¬–April). It’s also just minutes away from local attractions such as the Chinook Winds Casino and Eden Hall, a live jazz club.

Many of the guest rooms at Shearwater Inn overlook the ocean. Stay in one of the king deluxe rooms for some of the best views—they’re located on the fifth floor. Parlor suites are good for families, with a full kitchen, separate bedroom, and living area with a hideaway bed. All included rooms have a gas fireplace and a single-person jetted tub.

Each morning, staff can deliver free continental breakfast straight to your room. Shearwater Inn also hosts a daily afternoon wine social featuring complimentary local wines.

Lincoln City, Oregon: Artists' Community on Rugged Pacific Coast

Situated along Oregon’s northwestern coast, Lincoln City spans 7.5 miles of picturesque public beaches with ample surfing and whale-watching opportunities. Two inland bays, Devils Lake and Siletz Bay, provide nice spots for fishing or boating in the warmer months. About 10 miles north of Lincoln City stands Cascade Head, a towering, 270-acre headland that juts into the ocean. Year-round and seasonal trails crisscross the rugged cliffs; while hiking the paths, keep an ear out for sea lions that bark rousing sea chanteys.

The center of Lincoln City's flourishing art scene lies just a short distance inland. Seaside streets are peppered with dozens of galleries and antique shops, where visitors can glimpse genuine Japanese glass floats. Grab a bite to eat at one of the town’s many seafood restaurants, which are known for their fresh catches.

The inn was so quiet and peaceful, as well as being so close to the beach. Rooms were very nicely done. Would definitely go back if I had the chance.

Staff were very pleasant Delivered breakfast was wonderful as was the wine social although the quality of the wine choices were a little questionable - especially considering the availability of excellent value wines in the area.
