4-Day Tour of Arizona
In many ways, Arizona still resembles an untouched wilderness, from the yawning gorges of the Grand Canyon to the towering sandstone rock formations of Sedona. This tour takes you from the bright lights of Las Vegas to Arizona’s vast landscape. Along the way, you’ll see relics from ancient pueblo towns, along with a vintage stretch of Route 66. For a bit of adventure, the tour takes you off-roading in a Jeep through Sedona’s rugged terrain. The trip includes:
- Tour guide
- Transportation
- Park entrance fees
- 3 nights of accommodations
- Pink Jeep off-road tour and Western cookout
- Three breakfasts
- Four lunches
Days 1–2: Grand Canyon and Sedona
At 6 a.m. on day 1, the tour bus will pick you up from your hotel and whisk you from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon National Park, where you’ll tour the famous canyons and the Painted Desert. The trip continues on day 2, passing the lava domes and conical rock formations of the San Francisco Volcanic Field before reaching Sedona, where you’ll go off-roading in a Jeep. Close out the night with an Old West–style cookout.
- Desert View Watchtower looks out on the Painted Desert from more than 70 feet up. It’s a National Historic Landmark that was inspired by pueblo architecture.
- Tusayan Museum: See 800-year-old ruins of a pueblo village and tour a rock-walled museum that houses ancient arrowheads and traditional pottery.
- Oak Creek Canyon: Rand McNally called the ride along this 16-mile canyon one of the most scenic drives in America. The rocky river gorge is peppered with rushing waterfalls and fishing streams.
- Accommodations: Red Feather Hotel in Tusayan on day 1; Orchards Inn in Sedona on day 2
Days 3–4: Sedona and Prescott
When you hike in Sedona, you’ll find out exactly why the city’s nicknamed Red Rock Country—the terrain is dominated by ruddy sandstone peaks and spires that inspired Max Ernst’s stunning landscape paintings. Next up, you’ll see the remnants of a pueblo village in Arizona and of a mining settlement back in Jerome, Arizona. The trip comes to a close on day 4 with a visit to Kingman, a historic Route 66 town. Take time here to stretch your legs on a hike or mountain-bike ride before snapping photos of Hoover Dam.
- Tuzigoot National Monument is perched high up on a hill in Arizona. As you tour the site, you’ll notice a conspicuous lack of doors. Residents got in and out of rooms by climbing a ladder.
- Mingus Mountain Recreation Area: Hike mountain trails shaded by the towering pine trees of Prescott National Forest.
- The Heart of Route 66: The historic road runs right through Kingman, where you’ll make a pit stop to see classic cars and neon signs that commemorate the route.
- Accommodations: Springhill Suites in Prescott on day 3
