Q:

what is the weathe for all 3 dates? sandy s

sandra s.  asked on  Apr 18, 2012

A:

There are two trip dates: July 15-23 and January 20-28. Generally the weather is mild during both of these times. In July it will be sunny and dry, around 75 degrees during the day and may get down to 55 in the evening. In January it will be mostly sunny with some humidity and some rain showers at night and in the afternoon, with temperatures in the low 80s during the day and in the 70s at night.

Q:

Would it be possible for a vegetarian to go on this trip? Or would it be unrealistic to expect non-meat item(s) at every meal?

Erica R.  asked on  Apr 18, 2012

A:

It definitely is possible. One of Spark's staff members eats vegetarian and does this trip twice a year. The traditional Zambian dinners always include vegetables and rice and more than half of the nights dinner will be at restaurants with plenty of options. We encourage all participants to bring plenty of protein snacks to supplement the meals.

Q:

What kind of accommodations do participants stay in during the trip?

Lila H.  asked on  Apr 18, 2012

A:

Travelers will be staying in hotels....Michaelangelo's in Ndola and the Protea Hotels in Lusaka and Livingstone. You will find these hotels have simple but nice guest rooms with comfortable beds and private bathrooms. The Protea at LIvingstone is a 4-star lodging experience. The trip is based on participants sharing a room, or if you would prefer a single room, you can contact Spark Ventures to discuss an additional fee, 773-293-6710, info@sparkventures.org (put "Groupon" in the subject).

Q:

Do I need a visa to get into Zambia? If so, where can I get it and what's the time line?

Lucy J.  asked on  Apr 17, 2012

A:

Yes. You get a visa through the Zambian Embassy-it can be handled all through the mail and we suggest allowing for 6-8 weeks. Once you purchase the Groupon and register for the trip at www.sparkventures.org, you will receive a trip manual that has instructions for all of the logistics including the visa process. Spark is available to support in that process via email (info@sparkventures.org) and phone, 773-293-6710.

Q:

Do you have any suggestions on ways to fly there inexpensively? So far all I've found are $2000 tickets.

Jennifer W.  asked on  Apr 17, 2012

A:

Traveling from the U.S you will likely pay between $2,000-$3,000 for round trip flights...it is not cheap. But you are going all the way to Africa for an adventures of a lifetime! People with frequent flyer miles can sometimes purchase some or all of the legs of their trip using miles. Expedia, cheapOair, Orbitz...those are the sites that most trip participants use to book their flights.

Q:

My sister and I are very interested in this deal. We are Canadian and I see that you have to go to the consult in Washington. Can we get a visa in Canada?

Jennifer W.  asked on  Apr 17, 2012

A:

You should be able to get a Zambian visa in Canada. Here is one website that helps to facilitate: http://zambia.visahq.ca/.

Q:

We are interested in this trip with our 14 year son. If its my husband, myself, and our son, would he be included to stay in our room or would we have to pay a single supplement? And if he is in our room is it at a discounted price? Also I would like to verify that he would be able to participate in everything (volunteering, excursions...)

Amanda G.  asked on  Apr 17, 2012

A:

Your son would be able to stay in your room, and a refund for that savings is a possibility. You should contact Spark Ventures directly (info@sparkventures.org or call 773-293-6710 weekdays from 9am-5pm CST) for details related to this situation. You would still need to purchase a Groupon voucher for each trip participant as it covers other costs including meals, flights, ground transportation and excursions. Yes your son would be able to participate in everything.

Q:

Do you have reviews or comments on Yelp or anywhere online?

Lucy J.  asked on  Apr 16, 2012

A:

An important question. We have a "What people are saying..." section on the Spark Ventures website with quotes (http://tinyurl.com/6sdqocd), a video with trip participant interviews on YouTube (http://tinyurl.com/7825h5e) and if you call the office, we can provide you with a list of references-former trip participants, 773-293-6710.

Q:

I have looked up flights and there are none available. Is there a special way to go about booking travel to and from Zambia? What if we book this deal and can't get to Zambia?

Susan D.  asked on  Apr 16, 2012

A:

I'm not sure which travel site you are looking at, but currently we have seen flights departing U.S. on Friday, July 13 and arriving in Ndola on Sunday, July 15 and departing from Livingstone on Monday, July 23. There will definitely be options for you to book international flights to Zambia for this trip. If you'd like to call the Spark office, we are happy to walk you through some of the online sites that currently have flights available.

Erin D.  from  Merchant  replied on  Apr 16, 2012

A:

Our office number is 773-293-6710 and we are available 9am-5pm CST Monday through Friday.
