Negril, Jamaica: Laid-Back Beach Town with Picturesque Sunsets, Snorkeling, and Cliff Diving

Located on Jamaica’s western coast, Negril is known for its white-sand beaches, dramatic rugged cliffs, and coral reefs lying just offshore in the Caribbean. Its underwater beauty makes the town a popular spot for scuba diving and snorkeling at Negril Marine Park, and anglers have found the sea filled with blue marlin, wahoo, and mahi-mahi. The city has a front-row seat to some of the world’s most beautiful sunsets, and people often climb to the top of waterfront cliffs just to watch. At Rick’s Cafe, which is listed in the book 1,000 Places To See Before You Die, groups congregate every night to watch the sun dip below the horizon; some brave adventurers even leap off the 35-foot cliffs into the water.

Often called "the capital of casual," Negril is best defined by its laid-back vibe, from the slow and steady rhythm of the indigenous reggae music to its unofficial uniform—swimsuits and flip-flops. Running along the town is Seven Mile Beach, a stretch of powdery, white-sand coastline that earned a spot on Frommer’s Best Beaches in the Caribbean list. The town center comprises a shopping mall and a craft market where visitors can pick up locally produced goods.

Irie From start to finish it was all good. Book with them, you get Mobay to walk you through the lines, mitigate small issues, and assure you it's goin' to be alright. They include the transportation and it was safe and quick. The check-in is easy and painless. The rooms are just as they look online with cleaning done to perfection daily. The food is good starting with breakfast and including lunch on the beach. There is one restaurant and that's fine. Casual relaxation is the vibe. If you're thinking party, don't come. If you're a food snob don't come. If you expect shows and to be entertained, don't come. If you are looking to relax, kick back, and enjoy what God has created around you, you're in for a treat. It's Irie.

A piece of paradise We chose Sunset at the Palms as it looked so beautiful from the pictures and wanted somewhere that was smaller and felt more boutique and 'Jamaican', it was everything we wanted and more! All the staff from the man who met us off the transfer bus, to the reception and concierge, all staff in the restaurants, bars and beach and the housekeeping and gardeners were so warm and friendly. Unfortunately I can't remember any specific names now but really everyone was so welcoming and friendly and made us feel super relaxed. The whole hotel area was beautiful, even better than the pictures! It really felt like you were in the jungle in our own piece of paradise. We loved that all the restaurants and bars were open (not generic air-conditioned rooms) and we loved the treehouse rooms especially hearing all the sounds of the jungle at night! Not being right on the beach was no problem as the road was super easy to cross with the help of the staff and gave a nice little walk each morning (the most exercise we did!) The beach area was great with lots of shade options and lovely shallow water to cool off in. Something we were a little unsure about was what the food would be like as with all-inclusive places it can be hit and miss but honestly all the buffet food was absolutely delicious - I wish we could eat there every day!! What we really liked was having the real Jamaican food at breakfast and dinner - jerk, rice and peas, saltfish and ackee, callaloo etc. The booked dinners in the a la carte restaurants were nice but to be honest, we actually thought the buffet was so nice we would happily have eaten there every day and each day there was a different theme to give variety. It's probably not the place if you want loud music and a party atmosphere but if what you want is a more authentic experience and to relax in beautiful surroundings with really good food (and very good cocktails) then Sunset at the Palms is perfect! We can't wait to come back!! Also, following hurricane Melissa we wanted to send all our love and best wishes to all the staff, their families and everyone in Negril and Jamaica and hope all are safe and well

The Perfect Experience. Ambience 10/10 Service 10/10 not a hotel. Staff makes you feel like Family, the other guest are extended family. shoutout to Ireland, Canada, Kentucky and North Carolina. The resort is so incredible, your staying in your own jungle paradise. The rooms give so much privacy and the A/C unit is a beast when its hitting 85 and 95% humidity. For being under the canopy Lynford keeps the grounds immaculate, not a fallen stick, palm branch, or leaf. The sounds of nature and the piano man are what ppl think of when they say "Take me back". Best Sunset and Best kept Secret.
