We really enjoyed our stay, but left early due to the weather forecast and the low water crossings by the cabin. That is the only reason we would leave early because we were really enjoying the peace and quiet. It is rustic, but that is what we like. Great place for fishing or just taking a walk. The food was amazing. He did a really good job taking care of us during our stay. Thanks!!

About The Bourbon Lodge

With just 2,000 square feet and only three bedrooms, The Bourbon Lodge surrounds guests in the coziness and attentiveness of a bed and breakfast, but its small size belies the many adventures surrounding it. Situated on a hill overlooking 300 private acres—from which the logs came for its timber frame—the lodge connects guests to dense forest and two spring-fed lakes for activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and horseback riding. On hunting trips, guides supply hunters with bird-dogs, guns, and ammo to hunt for game ranging from turkey to deer, depending on the season. They also help hunters sharpen their marksmanship with 15 stations of clay shooting. For fishermen, the lodge's staff maintains rental boats for unguided fishing trips. The lodge's seclusion also caters to those seeking relaxation, with amenities such as a hammock and alarm clocks that hit their own snooze buttons. Come meal times, the dining area fills with aromas from dishes such as fresh omelets, fried fish, and rotisserie chicken.

Only recommendation I would suggest is be sure to drive a SUV or van since the road to the lodge is rocky and steep. However, my kids enjoyed the drive and crossing 2 small streams.

We were very disappointed that the Groupon said it included a round of sporting clays but the stations were not set up. This was a main reason we bought the Groupon so that was a real letdown and we felt a bit cheated. We also wish there had been a warning about the roads. We would not have brought a brand new car if we had known about the road conditions. Luckily we were in a high enough clearance, 4 wheel drive car so we were okay but if we had brought a different car, we would have really been in trouble. There was also some initial misunderstanding about the fact that I don't eat meat so I didn't get one of the meals but that did eventually get resolved.

This was a special treat for my family - three boys. Fishing, hanging around the fire, shooting arrows, turkey hunting, shooting claybirds - just being outdoors. Then, to have our own cook to fix meals after being outside all day - what more could a mom ask for? Okay...maybe a massage and a manicure but this is a "guy's place" and it made me happy to see my boys with big smiles on their faces. And, as they say...if mommy is happy then everyone is happy!
