The Cabins at a Glance: The Cabins at Bear River Lodge
When Roger Eggett first purchased The Cabins at Bear River Lodge, he got little more than an old building set amid the wilderness in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, about two hours east of Salt Lake City. Eggett quickly replaced the outdated lodge with modern cabins and a pair of hot tubs, but wisely left the surrounding forests untouched. Guests staying here are encouraged to spend their vacations outdoors, creating lasting memories on the area’s hiking paths and ATV trails, just as he and his family had done.
- Go explore: You can access hundreds of miles of groomed trails winding past woodlands inhabited by moose, elk, and other wildlife, as well as off-trail backcountry trails for more adventurous types.
- Optional add-on: Two of this getaway’s options come with ATV rentals. These are two-seated ATVs (one for driver and one for passenger), and you have them from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Optional upgrades to the 4-seat and 6-seat ATVs are available.
- Where you’ll stay: Each one-bedroom cabin features a jetted tub and a spacious living room with leather couches and a flat-screen TV.
- In-room amenities: Walkout patios overlooking the rushing Bear River, full kitchen, and outdoor gas grill.
- Grab some supplies: A convenience store is stocked with groceries, beverages, and outdoor supplies.
Summit County, Utah: Multi-Use Trails in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest

If you want to venture out on foot, there are several nonmotorized trails, open only to hikers, horses, and determined kayakers. For an introduction to the forest, take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, a 65-mile, two-hour drive with several scenic vistas overlooking picturesque mountain lakes.
