Mississauga, Ontario: Walkable Toronto Suburb

Mississauga was originally developed as a southern suburb of Toronto, set right along the shores of Lake Ontario. As it grew, however, Mississauga quickly developed into a city in its own right, with lots of restaurants, shopping complexes, and year-round activities, such as those held at Celebration Square. During the summer, the square hosts outdoor concerts and festivals; in winter, visitors can go ice skating at a large, open-air rink.

Just a ten minutes’ drive away is Square One Shopping Centre, a sprawling complex with restaurants, a mix of retail shops, and a movie theater. Erin Mills Town Centre, another large shopping center, is few miles south.

Walkability is one of Mississauga’s major draws. The city boasts numerous pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, including the small downtown. Streetsville is an especially walkable neighborhood a few miles from the city center. Its main drag is lined with charming cafés, restaurants, and day spas.
