Hotel at a Glance: The Grandison Inn at Maney Park

When the railroad industry swept through Oklahoma City, it brought James William Maney, who not only built a railroad, but also built a home. In 1904, he completed a stately Victorian mansion for his family. Five years later, he still loved the home, but hated the location. And so he moved it. He transferred the entire house to Shartel Avenue and, today, it’s where it still resides as The Grandison Inn at Maney Park. When you step through the doors at the B&B, it’s easy to see why Maney was so insistent on keeping it—maple hardwood floors, cozy alcoves, and original stained glass are just a few of its charms.

  • Unique rooms for unique guests: Each of the eight rooms in the B&B has its own theme, ranging from Victorian elegance to a whimsical motif.
  • Pick up a home-baked dessert at the Butler’s Pantry, which is free for all guests.
  • Romantic perks: Select options of this Getaway feature add-ons such as half-dozen chocolate-covered strawberries or a bottle of bubbly.
  • Dine-in with a romantic meal for two served right to your room (extra fee).
  • Oogle artwork at the Oklahoma Museum of Art, which is about a mile away.
  • Get a feel for the Panhandle State by visiting the capital buildings of Oklahoma.
  • Things to do in Oklahoma City: Catch a Oklahoma City Thunder game at Chesapeake Energy Arena, see elephants at the Oklahoma City Zoo, or take a water taxi down the Bricktown Canal.

Oklahoma City: Former Frontier City with Modern Museums

Oklahoma City is both the capital and the largest city in the state, and it’s chock-full of contemporary museums, modern art displays, and vibrant neighborhoods. Head to the historical Bricktown district to stroll along a picturesque riverwalk past eateries and shops, all housed in the traditional red-brick buildings that gave the area its name.

You’ll also find several niche museums to check out, such as the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and the Museum of Osteology, which bills itself as “America’s First Skeleton Museum.” Here, you can see hundreds of skulls and skeletons of various animals, including primates, reptiles, and a 40-foot whale.
