The Appalachian Trail runs through the heart of Hot Springs, North Carolina, right past the front door of The Iron Horse Station, an extensively restored historic three-building property made up of an inn, a restaurant and tavern, and a coffee shop and artisan gallery. Guest rooms are in the original inn, built in 1929 and painstakingly restored in 2005.
Southern comfort food made with locally grown ingredients is served at the restaurant and tavern, located inside what’s believed to be the county’s oldest building. This getaway comes with a $20 dining credit.
Pullman train cars were the inspiration behind the inn’s handsome guest rooms.
Hot tubs: You can relax in a jetted tub in select guest rooms. You’ll also get a 10% discount for a soak at Hot Springs Spa.
Live music featured throughout the week
Hot Springs, North Carolina: Hot Mineral Springs near the Appalachian Trail and Pisgah National Forest
Though it’s located at the confluence of the French Broad River and Spring Creek, Hot Springs is named for a different body of water—one of the only mineral springs in the southeastern United States. Visitors soak in their healing waters at Hot Springs Resort and Spa, which features outdoor hot tubs on the banks of the rivers.
Many folks chance upon Hot Springs as they’re making their way along the Appalachian Trail. It runs straight through the town along Bridge Street before beginning the ascent up the Blue Ridge Mountains. Additional hiking opportunities abound at Pisgah National Forest, located just outside of town.
