The Pendleton House Bed and Breakfast - Pendleton: 2- or 3-Night Stay for Two at The Pendleton House Bed and Breakfast in Northern Oregon

Charming B & B a Scenic Drive from Walla Walla Wineries

The Pendleton House Bed and Breakfast was built in 1917 on a quiet street overlooking the Umatilla River. Nearly a century later, the French-neoclassical- and Italianate-style home still retains much of its original splendor; period furnishings, ornate woodwork, and Chinese silk wallpaper can be found throughout the interior. There’s even a spacious front porch with furniture that looks out onto historic downtown Pendleton, a small town in eastern Oregon. According to Fodor’s, “the bed-and-breakfast is a grand reminder that the Old West had its share of wealth and worldly sophistication” and it was voted "Guest Favorite" by

The Pendleton House’s six guest rooms have a touch of worldly sophistication, too: each one is decorated with a unique assortment of antique furniture, wallpapers, and light fixtures, and all are well stocked with plush comforters, homemade treats, and, in the summer and spring, fresh flowers from the property’s flower garden. Some, like the Gwendolyn and Mandarin rooms, even have access to the home’s semiprivate balcony. All of the rooms are located on the second floor, and you can reach them by stairs or four-person elevator.

Each morning, the innkeepers serve a gourmet breakfast of house coffee, assorted teas, and fresh fruit juice in the formal dining room. Dishes may include eggs benedict with smoked salmon, french toast stuffed with toasted pecans and cranberries, and homemade biscuits. With the day before you, consider making the scenic drive to nearby Walla Walla, Washington, where dozens of wineries and more than 85 tasting rooms await.

Pendleton, Oregon: Historic Town with an Annual Rodeo

Pendleton sits near the foothills of the Blue Mountains in eastern Oregon, a little more than three hours from Portland. Its historic downtown’s Main Street is lined with charming redbrick buildings that house local shops and restaurants. Visit Heritage Station Museum, to learn about the history of the region in a circa-1909 train depot. Or, get to know Pendleton’s more sordid past on the Pendleton Underground Tour, which explores the city’s red-light district. On this tour, you’ll visit a number of historic buildings that used to be hot spots for gambling, bootlegging, and prostitution.

About a mile east of Main Street, workers at Pendleton Woolen Mills still create the 100% virgin wool blankets and shirts that have earned the town international recognition since 1893. Today, you can tour the facility for free to learn about the weaving process and watch the workers in action.
