Country B&B on Farmland Estate with Horse Stables and Hiking Trails

Verdant mountains and flowered meadows line central Vermont, a remote, rural region. The Three Stallion Inn sits at the heart of this natural beauty on a 1,300-acre estate known as Green Mountain Stock Farm. This sprawling farmland contains a horse paddock and stables, a fishing stream, and more than 35 miles of trails open for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. And since the inn is positioned amid the foothills of the Green Mountains, you can get easy access to recreational opportunities. After exploring the surrounding countryside, you can take a soak in the hotel’s hot tub or relax in the sauna.

The Three Stallion Inn was originally built in the mid 1800s, and it retains many of its architectural elements, including a wrap-around porch, and cozy parlor rooms. All guest rooms have been recently updated—most feature private baths with heated floors and steam showers, and all have flat screen TVs. In Room #11, you can enjoy views of the neighboring golf course and the Green Mountains. Room #6, on the third floor, offers high ceilings and romantic, floral wallpaper.

There’s plenty to do onsite. Woodland trails run past old stonewalls and mountain streams, and it’s worth it to walk or hike the trails. This Groupon also gives you the option to rent snowshoes or cross-country skis. Alternatively, there’s another option that includes a round of golf, a cart rental, and two drinks at the inn's Montague Golf Course, an 18-hole, riverfront links course.

Randolph, Vermont: Rural Farmlands and Mountain Biking near the Green Mountains

Located in the geographic center of Vermont, Randolph is a small country town filled with farmlands, covered bridges, and mountain streams. This variety of landscapes—and its proximity to the Green Mountains—makes Randolph a renowned recreation spot. Biking Magazine called it the “Moab of the East,” as it has more than 250 miles of biking trails ranging from flat road loops to steep hill climbs. The White River is a popular spot for fly-fishing and canoeing, and during the winter, the town is a gateway to renowned downhill skiing venues such as Killington and Sugarbush.

About 30 miles south, the White River Junction boasts an impressive albeit laidback art scene with studios specializing in pottery and printmaking. You’ll also find a pair of museums, including the Main Street Museum, which houses various curiosities and artifacts. A bit father south is Burlington, home to the University of Vermont Catamounts, and the first Ben & Jerry’s.

The peace and quiet. The welcoming atmosphere. The comfortable rooms and bathrooms. The rockers and breezes to be found on the wrap around porch. And most of all, golf right across the street! The owners of the Inn provided a golf cart for our husbands to use to get back and forth from the Inn to the golf course so that the "wives" could use the car. A thoughtful "extra".

It would be a perfect get-away - with the golf, pool, skiing, exercise room, etc. on the premises IF they had had horseback riding on site (They offered to give us directions to different places that offered horseback riding, but not the same as going to the barn and once you return being able to return to your room); and IF the restaurant had been operating. All the restaurants we visited were very good, but at least 15-20 away. It would have been nice to have a cocktail while waiting for the golfers or before heading out for the evening. My feeling is that unless they get that up and running, the Inn will not be as successful as they would like.
