Cape Cod Inn with Bay Views and 1950s-Inspired Diner

You’ll find Tidewater Inn amid the lighthouses of Cape Cod, close to the National Seashore and the ferries that motor back and forth between the Cape, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard. The inn fits right in with its quaint surroundings. The building's green-shuttered windows look out on 4 acres of verdant grounds situated just a hop, skip, and jump from the shore.

The property boasts a hot tub and two pools, one indoors and one out. On the spacious lawn out back, there's a kids' playground as well as barbecue grills, picnic tables, and a volleyball court, all leading to a small pond. For breakfast, head to the 1950s-inspired Helen’s Diner for homestyle cooking that can be enjoyed at a pink-and-sea-foam-green table or on a counter stool. Helen's is only open on the weekends in November and December. After breakfast, you can reflect on the ephemeral nature of blueberry muffins on your double guest room’s private balcony, which overlooks Lewis Bay to the south.

West Yarmouth, Massachusetts: Historical Sites and Maritime Adventure

West Yarmouth, on the southern shore of the mid-Cape region, is one of three seaside villages that make up the larger town of Yarmouth. English settlers began colonizing the area in the mid-17th century, and historical traces are still visible. Mills dot the countryside, and coastal bluffs are festooned with lighthouses including the privately owned Point Gammon Lighthouse and the Sandy Neck Lighthouse. Waterfront restaurants and upscale boutiques can be found throughout West Yarmouth, and 20 golf courses lie within a 20-minute drive.

Take to the National Seashore to explore 40 miles of beaches, marshes, and uplands abounding with wildlife. More lighthouses and wild cranberry bogs break up the trek. The seashore became a nationally protected area in 1961 at the direction of President John F. Kennedy.

It is a nice family inn. My husband and I wanted a quick getaway and this was perfect for the time of year. Would we stay there during the summer? No but only because we do not travel with kids since ours are grown. Would I bring our grandchildren? Yes lots to do with them there. It was clean and the staff very friendly.
