Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

I am allergic to insect bites, mosquitoes, red ants. The swell and turn very red and itchy and hard. How is this trip when it comes to insects? Thanks

Kay S.  asked on  Oct 18, 2012

A:

Africa is buggy for sure. If you decide to go please take all precautions against bites and stings. I just returned from 10 days in Central Africa, traveling with someone who is also highly allergic and she had a lot of hydro cream and repellent and was OK, but this is a highly personal decision as you are not close to medical help if you have an extremely severe reaction. Perhaps ask your doctor?

Q:

Will their be time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro?

nius m.  asked on  Oct 19, 2012

A:

Yes; if you extend your trip by about 9 days. You would travel from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro by air or road, either before or after your Kenya safari. We can book Kili climbs. I think you should go for it!

Q:

HI, I am interested in the 4/1 flight from LAX for two people. What is the flight time for that and how long do we have to be in Dubai for transit when we are going to Kenya and when we leave back to the US? Thank you

Cindy C.  asked on  Oct 19, 2012

A:

Best to call us on this one - schedules vary so we will have to know your dates and check availability. If you have a layover in Dubai of more than 8 hours a complimentary day room is provided. Typically you will have a layover enroute Nairobi but not on the return. You might want to consider a stopover – Dubai is a fascinating place!

Q:

2 questions: Can the flight be booked as an Alaskan flight instead of an Emirates flight? Also, are the meals appropriate for vegetarians?

Prabhu K.  asked on  Oct 21, 2012

A:

Hello Alaskan doesn't fly to Kenya so that wouldn't be possible. You can add your Alaskan mileage number ot the booking if what you are hoping to do is to collect miles? YEs vegetarians are well catered for in Kenya. Call me if you have further questions! Janelle extension 420.

Q:

Hi- what kind of vehicles are used for the safari treks? I read several requests for family travel- are there trips/dates tailored more towards adults or are all excursions considered 'kid friendly'? Tks! Robin

Robin T.  asked on  Oct 22, 2012

A:

Hi Kenya really isn't a destination for young children. I'm a parent and I personally wouldn't take a child younger than 12 on a safari, and even a 12 year old would be challenged at times. Vehicles are not 4WD as that is not necessary in most parts of Kenya, but have pop tops for photo taking. Please call me if you want to go over this in more detail. My extension is 420 - Janelle

Q:

Could i add on a Uganda/Rwanda gorilla trek?

Carolyn K.  asked on  Oct 22, 2012

A:

Yes absolutely, what a great idea! We can help you with a side trip and get gorilla permits for you if that is your purpose, as well. Would likely recommend Rwanda if you're thinking of just 3 or 4 days.

I would like to purchase this trip. I am ONE person. How much is it? And will I have a private room?

karen b.  asked on  Oct 23, 2012

A:

You will pay a single supplement of $800 and you will have your own room. So please buy the Groupon and, when you call us to book, let us know you're a solo traveler and we'll collect the single supplement from you. You'll travel with others in the group but have your own room throughout.

Q:

Hi! I'm interested in the November departure (from SFO)and would be purchasing the single supplement. Can you let me know if there is still space on this departure date? I'm assuming that, even though one of your answers indicated that 10/18 was the final day for the Groupon promotion, it actually extends to 10/25...is this correct? Many thanks, Marjorie

Marjorie E.  asked on  Oct 24, 2012

A:

Hi, yes the deal has been extended through Thursday midnight as so many travelers needed a bit more time to firm their plans! We do still have space for your departure. Look forward to hearing from you.

Q:

Hi, What exactly does Flying doctor coverage include? Thanks

marge f.  asked on  Oct 28, 2012

A:

Think of it as an ambulance that arrives by air. Basic treatment to stablilize a situation, and evacuation to a medical facility if necessary. We still recommend travel insurance we you can buy through us or a vendor of your choice; then you know you are covered financially for anything that might happen. We can send you a copy of the policy if you require more information - please contact us.

Do all of the Hotels have Vegan options?

Kathie B.  asked on  Oct 24, 2012

A:

Yes. Mostly the meals will be buffet style or included a couple of entree choices, so vegans will be OK. We also advise the lodges that you are a vegan so they make sure to have vegan options available. Meals always include lots of fruits and veggies, the meals are an enjoyable part of the safari.
