Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

I am considering Option 5, which is from 3/1-3/31. It appears that we can depart from ORD up to and including March 31st, is that correct? Can we fly out on any day/time of the week or are there certain restrictions? Also, is it a direct flight from ORD to JNB? If not, what is the approximate travel time to arrival? Thanks.

Kina N.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

Hi Kina - South African Airways flights depart from JFK and Dulles daily, and we book you an add on flight from other cities. There is no nonstop from ORD to JNB. Flight time from JFK to JNB is 15 hours non stop. Flight from Dulles to JNB makes a refuel landing in Dakar that adds about an hour to the flying time. Travel must commence no later than 31 March 2013. Give us a call so we can hold space for you. 866-427-2540

Can we fly out earlier or stay later on this trip if we want to continue to travel SA

Lori S.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

You can extend your trip sure. There may be a small fee to cover additional taxes etc, but your consultant will go over that with you when you book.

Q:

I am looking at the option depart from JFK 3/1/2013-3/31/2013 - do you have daily departure within the period? And for solo traveler who is willing to share room, do you pair people up?

Kim Poh C.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

Hi Kim I'm sorry but we can't pair people up on this as it is an independent trip, not a set itinerary. Take a friend! There are daily departures, yes.

Q:

If one can only fly from the United States, why is this Groupon being advertised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada? I'm not interested in reading about Groupons that require me to fly to the U.S. before I can even consider using them.

Kathy B.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

Hi Kathy - I'm sorry that you aren't interested in trips ex USA but each time we post a trip on Groupon we get a whole bunch of your compatriots who do fly to JFK or Seattle to connect with our departures. I was just in Victoria Falls and ran into a lovely couple from Toronto who had booked their Groupon with me! (You Canadians are a lot of fun, especially after a few glasses of South African pinotage.)

Q:

Is there a way to accommodate a family of 3? Would like to take trip with husband & 13 yo daughter.

Heidi A.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

Hi Heidi - You bet, and your daughter is just the right age to go on safari, too. She will love it. This is a great trip for people of all ages. What you'll do is to buy 2 Groupons at the applicable price for your dates, and we'll surcharge you directly for having a 3rd person in your room - $2399. Call us to check space before you buy your Groupons if you like.

Q:

I was wondering about the food? Do we pay separate for food and if so, how much money on average do we need for food for the whole trip?

Angie Z.  asked on  Nov 7, 2012

A:

Hi Angie, Breakfast is included daily, and it is typically a very extensive buffet. Other meals are at your own expense, and prices are very similar to the US. You will find fast food, family chains and fine restaurants - so you can eat to suit your budget. Cape Town has great ethnic food - try Cape Malay which is spicy and something that you won't find here in North America.

Q:

Hello, Im travelling with my husband is the $2,500 the per person rate for the trip and would we be booked to stay in the same room?

ashley  asked on  Nov 8, 2012

A:

Hi Ashley. Yes, you'd always stay together in a very nice room at the 3.5 to 4 star level, configured to your request (one queen bed or two double beds). This is an independent tour, so you aren't part of a large group movement. Thanks.

Q:

I can only depart on March 15, due to my MBA schedule. Are specific dates like that available OR do the trips only start on certain dates?

Evan M.  asked on  Nov 22, 2012

A:

Hi Evan. Yes, you can leave on March 15. This is an independent tour, so you can leave any time within the date parameters provided there is space, and currently it is fine. Good luck on your MBA. Thanks.

Hello, I was wondering if you can upgrade to first-class or business-class on the flight from new york to africa? If so, how much would it cost roughly?

Josef K.  asked on  Nov 21, 2012

A:

Hello Josef Business class upgrade is approximately $5500 / person. When you call to book we would do the upgrade and advise the exact fare. Need your dates to be more precise, I am sorry.

Q:

I am a single traveler. I am not looking to meet someone...as on a dating site. On average, are there also single travelers on your offered trips? I prefer to pay the single supplement, however I certainly do not wish to be excluded from social interaction, all because I am single.

Gail B.  asked on  Nov 18, 2012

A:

Hi Gail This is an independent trip - not a group trip - so you won't be traveling with other people, except for when you join a day tour or a safari. I am sure that on the day trips and safari there will be other solo travelers.

Q:

We are a family of 3, all adults and we're very interested in purchasing the group to fly in February some time, but I have a few questions... 1. Could my son who is 23 years old stay in our room and how much extra will we have to pay for him for this deal? 2. Could my husband and I extend our deal for an additional 5 to 10 days - go to Victoria Falls tour and how much would that cost? 3. Is there any way at all we can include a stop over somewhere along the flight? We hate the thought of spending 15 hours in the plane, so if we could stay over one or two nights somewhere else on the way back, that would be great. 4. It says on your site that we have to book this before November 30th but Groupon is only giving us 2 days to buy the deal? What's the difference? Thanks.

Lesley A.  asked on  Nov 17, 2012

A:

Hi Lesley, thank you for your inquiry. The accommodation in this Groupon differ in room configurations, so your son would either be staying in a room with you and your husband, or in a separate room. You and your husband would purchase the Groupon first, then call us at 866-427-0899 to purchase the trip for your son. You can absolutely extend to Victoria Falls! Cost to do this would depend on the days you decide on, and be determined when you call to book. Stopovers on the flight - the closest to that would be a refueling stop in Dakar if you depart from IAD. The plane trip can be quite relaxing however - free movies, food, drinks (including alcohol); you will get pillows, blankets. You need to purchase the actual Groupon before it expires on the Groupon site, but you have until Nov. 30 to book the actual trip with us (we advise sooner rather than later, however, to ensure availability for your preferred times). We look forward to hearing from you!

Q:

Are there extra charges for the admission to the Castle of Good Hope/the Rhodes Memorial during half-day Cape Town city tour and admission to the national park for the full-day open-vehicle safari in Kruger National Park?

Phoebe M.  asked on  Nov 17, 2012

A:

Hi Phoebe. Your Kruger safari is included - for one full day. If you want additional safaris you would pay for those. Your admission to the Cape Town attractions is included (except for the Table Mtn gondola) on your Mother City tour.

Q:

How much per person is the additional cost to Victoria falls for airfare and lodging for two days?

Jodi F.  asked on  Nov 17, 2012

A:

Hi Jodi This would be determined by the dates that you would be traveling, we actually have to check the airfare for the exact days you want so when you call to book your basic trip we can quote you the price of a Vic Falls add on. Airfare varies widely so there is no way to give you a price without knowing dates. We're open Saturday 17th so give a call between 8:30am - 4:30pm PST on 866-427-2540.
