This 8-day vacation includes a manual-transmission rental car and there’s no set itinerary, leaving you free to explore the landscape at your leisure. You’ll also get hotel accommodations at three different locations.

Arenal Volcano National Park

  • Accommodations: Hotel Lomas del Volcan
  • Lava Flow Trail: Follows 1.25 miles of hardened lava past a cloud forest and savannah, culminating in a view of Lake Arenal
  • Activities on the water: Boat rides, windsurfing, kayaking, and fishing for rainbow bass (known locally as guapote)
  • Natural hot springs: In pools and waterfalls throughout the area

Playa Carrillo

  • Accommodations: Hotel Leyenda, located on the beach of Playa Carrillo with a full service beach club with chairs and towels
  • Best bets for seeing wildlife: Scuba diving and snorkeling trips along a vibrant coral reef; dolphins and nesting sea turtles can sometimes be seen from the sand

The resort was amazing! Once we arrived, we didn't have to pay for anything (except tipping) because it was all included. Beautiful rooms, multiple pools & bars, & delicious restaurants!
