Costa Rica’s legendary volcanoes and sun-kissed beaches are at your fingertips on this six-day vacation, which splits time between two hotels. You’ll have a manual transmission rental car for the duration of your trip, which makes it easy to navigate between attractions.

Arenal and La Fortuna
Arenal Lodge is spread across 2,000 acres that include a butterfly garden and rainforest trails rife with exotic flora, spider monkeys, sloths, and colorful birds. The piece de resistance, though, is the view of Arenal Volcano, which is just a short drive away. Resort staff can help you schedule zipline and horseback tours to take in the surroundings (fees apply).
- Arenal Volcano National Park Arenal Volcano is the big draw here, but the park’s 30,000 acres are a wonderland petrified lava fields, rainforests, and Lake Arenal.
- Natural hot springs have been forged by the volcano’s geothermal activity; they’re nice secluded spots to relax, right nearby ponds and beneath waterfalls.
- La Fortuna Waterfall spouts out of the deep green hillside and onto giant boulders that you can climb.
Punta Leona, Puntarenas
Cruise three hours south of La Fortuna to reach the Punta Leona Hotel and Club, located on the Gulf of Nicoya. The resort is part of the coastal Punta Leona Nature Reserve, which has more than 700 acres of beaches and dry and wet forests.
- Carara National Park overflows with exotic wildlife, from the green vine snakes to the ever-elusive scarlet macaw.
- Jaco Beach is a popular surf spot. After dark, tourists pack into beachside VIP night clubs and discos to dance to reggaeton and hip hop into the wee hours.<p>
