There's no doubt that one of Garza Blanca Resort and Spa's biggest perks is its location—it has the ocean at its feet, the Sierra Madre Mountains as a backdrop, and downtown Puerto Vallarta to the north. Naturally, the resort puts the spotlight on the landscape: Palm trees and tropical flowers surround its infinity pool, which ends just steps from the edge of the ocean. And as part of this all-inclusive deal, you can dive right into the water with the resort's kayaking and snorkeling gear. The idyllic setting helped earn the property distinction as Conde Nast Johansen's best resort in 2013.
Beautiful as the scenery is, the resort has plenty to recommend it in its own right. It has weekly live music. Each of the resort's three gourmet restaurants features ocean views and exudes its own distinctive vibe, from the inventive steakhouse meals at BocaDos STK to hundreds of bottles of wine and more than 100 types of tequila at Blanca Blue Restaurant, Bar & Lounge. While the all-inclusive stay includes house wines and premium liquors, some alcoholic beverages will require an additional charge.
Hamara Spa offers Dead-Sea mud wraps, honey and oatmeal body scrubs, and Ayurevedic hot oil massages. Up in the one-bedroom suite, you can lounge on a hammock in the private wraparound terrace area and take in views of the ocean and surrounding jungle. Each suite is also outfitted with a full kitchen and, if totally necessary, you can stay connected to the outside world with large-screen TVs, high-speed Internet, and a conch shell that makes long-distance calls.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Tropical Paradise with Cosmopolitan Flair
Puerto Vallarta is perhaps Mexico’s most sophisticated vacation destination, with expansive beaches, trendy restaurants, and cobblestone streets leading to beautifully preserved 19th-century churches. A 16-block boardwalk known as the malecón offers unobstructed ocean views as it extends from the city center, past fountains and a famous 9-foot-high statue of a boy riding a seahorse.
Vallarta draws a diverse crowd of vacationers intent on relaxing during the day and living it up at night, bouncing between the city’s numerous dance clubs and bouncy castles. For a glimpse of the city's history, head to Viejo Vallarta, also known as Old Town, where artists peddle shawls and piñatas and mariachi bands serenade couples dancing on Plaza Principal.
