Jasper National Park, known for its snow-capped peaks and turquoise glacier-fed lakes, surrounds the town of Jasper.

Jasper, Alberta: Gateway into Jasper National Park
Though it’s a bit more rustic than its sister town, Banff, Jasper provides a gateway into Canada’s largest and oldest national park—the eponymous Jasper National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park draws visitors with its stunning glacier-fed waterfalls and snow-blanketed peaks. For an aerial, 360-degree view of the Canadian Rockies, board the Jasper SkyTram, which climbs up to an elevation of 7,470 feet (2,277 meters). You can also choose to hoof it on more than 60 miles (100 km) of hiking trails; one popular trail loops around the shores of Maligne Lake.
For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, step out onto a bonafide glacier at Columbia Icefield, a giant slab of ice which feeds eight massive glaciers; the icefield itself straddles the Continental Divide. Several bus shuttles make the trip daily. Later, warm up with a soak in Miette Hot Springs, a manmade pool filled with natural hot spring water cooled to a comfortable 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius).
