The Belize Barrier Reef is the second-longest reef in the world. It’s dotted with hundreds of islands, or cays, just off the coast of Belize. Eight miles from the mainland, Yok Ha Resort has one of these private Caribbean cays all to itself. The resort comprises five brightly colored cabanas scattered along the edge of the Caribbean Sea. One is red with yellow trim, another is fuchsia, and a royal-blue unit opens onto a yellow-and-orange porch. Some have ocean views and private verandas. This deal does not include airfare so remember to book tickets.

  • Island getaway: This deal includes boat transfers at check in and checkout.
  • Eat well at Chief’s Place, which serves complimentary meals including three-course dinners with fresh seafood specials.
  • Hit the waves in one of the resort’s complimentary kayaks.
  • Outdoor adventure: The resort also offers a number of half- and full-day tours, including trips to the Maya ruins, cave tubing, zip line, and one that takes you to Belize’s famous Jaguar Preserve (additional fees apply).

Stann Creek, Belize: Mayan Ruins, World-Renowned Scuba Diving, and Exotic Wildlife

Located along the coast on the southeastern section of Belize, the district of Stann Creek is one of Belize’s top tourist destinations. The Mayans occupied this region as early as AD 250, and its interior landscape is strewn with impressive ancient ruins set against the Maya Mountains. Today, people come to Stann Creek to see these ruins, enjoy the tropical climate, and visit the area’s eco-tourism destinations.

Opportunities for hiking, river tubing, snorkeling, and scuba diving abound in Stann Creek. The Belize Barrier Reef—the world’s second-longest reef—runs the length of the coastline. There eagle rays, octopuses, dolphins, sharks, and other fascinating creatures inhabit its cays and atolls. You can also see exotic wildlife at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, the world’s first jaguar reserve. Located just 10 miles from the Caribbean, the sanctuary was created to keep the jaguar from extinction. Visitors can follow the well-kept trails that cut through the 160-square-mile park, home to howler monkeys, pumas, ocelots, toucans, and much more.

On the mainland, you can walk around Dangriga, the capital of the Stann Creek District, and historically home to the Garifuna people. The coastal town is still devoted to its Afro-Caribbean heritage; many residents communicate with their ancestors through dancing and drumming circles.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the best way to travel to the hotel from the airport? The best airport to fly into is Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE). A round-trip commuter flight from Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) to Dangriga can be arranged via Guest Services at the time of booking (see www.mayaislandair.com and www.tropicair.com for prices). For large groups a land shuttle would be more economical.

3. Will I be approached to attend a timeshare sales presentation? Groupon customers are never obligated to attend a sales presentation. If you are approached and decline a presentation, you will not lose the value of your Groupon or have to pay additional fees.

4. Which activities and amenities are included in the resort credits? Resort credits are not included with the Groupon.

We really enjoyed my stay at this resort. The staff was friendly and attentive,, the island was beautiful and relaxing, and we loved the excursions we did through the resort. We even did an over night excursion to Tikal in Guatemala and we had an amazing time there too.

My fiance and I were completely blown away with our entire experience. We have never been to Belize and, since flights were not included, I was a bit worried to make sure I booked everything properly. Yok Ha worked with me and the entire process was so simple and great. We flew into Belize City, took a hopper flight (one of our favorite parts of the trip!) to Dangriga, and were boated out to Yok Ha's tiny, beautiful island. The colorful huts, the food, the sunrise/sunsets, the crystal clear water, and the staff were all incredible. Also, the price couldn't be beat. I spoke to a couple on our flight back home, who had stayed on the main island of Belize for a wedding, that said they were sad about the water being so muddy. It made me so happy we chose to be out on an island in the middle of the beautiful blue ocean! No complaints. We are constantly looking for a time to go back. LOVED IT! All of it. Highly recommend.

Overall the experience was well. They were good staff. The food was SPECULAR! Joyce was an AMAZING cook. She made our stay great. The cabanas were well kept. We did not do any of the excursions, but we did kayak a lot around the islands close by.
