Property at a Glance: Yosemite’s Enchanted Forest
All of the guesthouses inside Yosemite’s Enchanted Forest lie within the gates of Yosemite National Park, so guests are never far from the park’s scenic trails and waterfalls. They’re also close to downhill skiing, just six miles from the Badger Pass Ski Area. There’s even a free shuttle that loops through the Yosemite Valley all year long, stopping at trailheads and other points of interest.
- Homey guesthouses featuring kitchens, gas fireplaces, large decks, and hot tubs
- Stocked pantries and linen closets: Spices, coffee, and tea are provided, as are linens and many toiletries.
- Local wildlife: You might spot coyotes, deer, and even the occasional bear right in your backyard.
- Why visit now: Crowds in the winter are typically thinner; snowshoe through the trails and see the park blanketed in snow.
Yosemite National Park, California: Giant Sequoia Trees, Waterfalls, and Guided Snowshoe Hikes
Yosemite National Park is a place of superlatives: it’s home to three of the world’s 10 tallest waterfalls, the largest piece of exposed granite in the world (known as Half Dome), and a grove of ancient sequoia trees that are among the largest living beings on the planet. So it’s no wonder why this swath of wilderness in central California welcomes nearly four million visitors each year.
Crowds at Yosemite are much smaller in winter, so you can typically experience the park’s natural wonders at an unhurried pace. In cold weather, one trek worth making is the 1.2-mile Bridalveil Fall hike, which takes you right up to the roaring cascade. It can be icy during winter, but it’s an easy trip and the reward makes it worth trying.
Much of the Yosemite Valley stands at a low elevation, and it remains accessible to drivers, hikers, and snowball poachers throughout the winter. The full-service Badger Pass Ski Area features 10 runs, five lifts, and a beginner-friendly terrain park. Skis, snowboards, and snowshoes are all available for rent here; you can even take a guided snowshoe hike to see some of Yosemite’s best views.
