Yosemite National Park: Waterfalls, Granite Peaks, and Winter Sports
At 2,425 feet, Yosemite Falls is North America's tallest waterfall. The eponymous falls, which can be reached via a wheelchair-accessible trail, is probably the best known in Yosemite National Park, but it's not the only one. Waterfalls are one of the park's major draws—Yosemite is home to dozens of rushing falls that hit their peak flows between late February and early June.
The nearly 1,200-square-mile park in central California is known for its variety of ecosystems, ranging from scenic meadows to giant sequoia groves to towering peaks—the tallest, Mt. Lyell, stands at 13,114 feet. All are accessible by a well-maintained trail system. Some trails close in winter, but many more are open year-round. Winter months also bring ice skating, downhill skiing, and ranger-led snowshoe walks to the park.
