Designed for novice-level students, the handgun-fundamentals class covers the basics of handling revolvers and pistols. After covering topics such as ammunition and nomenclature in the classroom, instructors demonstrate how to responsibly wield a handgun, from stance to aim. They then take students to the virtual range and guide them through applying what they learned in the classroom.

On the virtual range, an electronic screen renders a wide variety of target scenarios and distances, and even produces simulated bullet holes. Students can zoom in on images of their shots. Each lane accommodates up to two people, and because there’s no cost for ammo, visitors get a high amount of repetition.

About Gander Mountain Academy
Gander Mountain Academy's state-of-the-art live fire range provides a safe, professional environment for firearms practice. After donning mandatory hearing protection and safety glasses, marksmen and women take aim at touchscreen-controlled targets, which they can take home as souvenirs or swiss-cheese wrappings once they've peppered them with holes. Though many opt to shoot solo, instructors can also join their students for extra guidance in the extra-wide stalls. Staff promote added safety by inspecting all firearms and ammunition before and after they're used on the range, and air-conditioning and -filtration systems keep the atmosphere comfortable year-round.
