Like a prism traps the light, the choreography of Michael Chernov and the music of Kurt Weill capture dreams, nightmares and the redemptive power of love itself in Stealing Time. This remarkable new ballet focuses on Algae, an outsider always chasing elusive success -- be it power, sex or a host of other temptations. But Algae's mad pursuit is thrown into chaos when he kills a mysterious being in a nightclub. His subsequent journey culminates in finding mercy in a most unexpected place: the love of his wife, Venus. Inspired by Weill and the Belgian surrealist Renée Magritte, Chernov has created this thrilling new work especially for the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet, a DUMBO-based company renowned for its "theatrical ardor and solid technique" (The New York Times).
