Nature photography gives audiences a safe way to see wild animals up close, unlike playing spin-the-bottle with a rhinoceros. Hone your picture-taking craft with today's Groupon: for $89, you get a six-hour, hands-on digital-photo class and an optional one-hour guided photography field trip from Your Photo Safari (a $189 value).
Your Photo Safari sheds light on camera know-how in classes helmed by professional picture-snappers Gene Taylor and Megan Varone. Aspiring lens-persons in the digital-photography class bring their own DSLR or other advanced-feature digital cameras to the Girl Scouts building in Asheville for a six-hour snapping session. The instructors' relaxed presentation style puts brain matter at ease as students learn to select shutter speeds, adjust color balance, and position photo subjects telekinetically. At the end of the class, students are shepherded to the Asheville Botanical Gardens for a one-hour photo walk (weather permitting), affording snapshot squires the chance to practice new techniques under professional tutelage and the watchful eyes of highly critical tree squirrels. Check the website for available course dates—new sessions will be added throughout the year.

About The River Center At Saluda Shoals Park Holiday Lights on the River
During classes at Your Photo Safari, a certified professional photographer with more than 30 years of experience introduces students to the photographic arts and the workings of DSLR cameras. Sessions begin in classroom settings, allowing students to get acquainted with camera basics as well as advanced features such as setting white balance and reducing blur. After learning how to navigate the multiple settings and buttons on their digital cameras, students traipse to area gardens to explore the natural world through their lenses. The hands-on experience allows students to take home artfully composed shots of plants bathed in natural light or trees planking over riverbanks in a bid for Internet fame.
