The rise of mixed martial arts also gave rise to Tapout, founded by Charles “Mask” Lewis, Dan “Punkass” Caldwell, and Tim “Skyskrape” Katz in 1997. Endorsed by superstar fighters such as Chael Sonnen and former UFC light-heavyweight champ Rashad Evans, its fight shorts, workout wear, tees, and other apparel for athletes and fight fans were seen at major and minor MMA events for years. Soon, the company opened Tapout gyms, and the Tapout crew ran a couple seasons of an MMA reality show. Today, Tapout has shifted to a more general workout-wear focus. It has aligned with WWE, whose wrestlers wear its apparel while training and painstakingly repairing all the tables they tossed their opponents through.
