In Dangerous Hunts 2013, players take on a series of formidable boss animals and blast their way through waves of four-legged threats. Unlike yesterday’s hunting games, which had few characters outside of an insolent laughing dog, Dangerous Hunts boasts a story with cinematic sweep, written by Andrew Kreisberg of Fringe. Big Game Hunter 2012 aims for immersion rather than spectacle, letting players step into the soggy boots of a hunter who must deal with the weather, elevation, and skittish prey. Hunters must take an intelligent approach, using their powers of observation and cunning to get within rifleshot of prize game. Hunting Expeditions lets gamers map out their own hunts in 15 exotic North American and African environments. Traveling by foot or vehicle, gamers must contend with unpredictable wind conditions and terrain, as well as animals’ fight-or-flight instincts and herd mentalities. All of these disparate elements might converge to help gamers line up the perfect shot, or one small thing may go awry to disrupt the hunt.
