After long days of interning or evenings spent dancing, two NYU students would limp toward the subway in painfully fashionable stilettos. Unwilling to give up their stylish shoes, the women came up with an innovative design: a pair of comfortable flats folded up to stow away in a purse or briefcase. Women could slip off their heels and into the flats, enjoying a rush of comfort matched only by leaping into a pile of panda bears. Launched in their senior year of college, the students’ design took off, grabbing headlines in New York Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and Forbes. The designers expanded their offerings to include rollable rain boots, leather flats, and multiple colors and styles of the original ballet flat.
