I purchased this and was able to initially set up the device but it took awhile getting it set up to my wireless network. I switched to a different internet service provider and lost the original CD to install the software and couldn't reconnect the device. So I contacted their support and waited on hold for 1 hour! When I finally got through to someone, he told me that he couldn't help me because they closed 15 minutes ago.
This device is not going to be easy to set up for someone who's not technical or understands how a network operates and their support team is obviously not supportive at all. I've spent hours trying to get this set up with no help.
This connects fine if its connected to WIFI & my phone is connected to WIFI at the same house. When I am aways& connect to 4G on my phone it will not connect. This completely defeats the purpose of trying to check on my dogs when I am away. I do not need a camera to check on my dogs when i am home.I am unable to return because I waited until someone who was more savy than I with computers came over to fix it for me. They also were unsuccessful. By that time my I had not read the return policy and I had missed the 14days time frame. So basically I am out $53.00 for a camera that is totally worth less to me.
I'm a full time caregiver for my 79 year old advanced stage Alzheimers father in law and getting up and walking across the house every 10 minutes or at every noise was getting very tiring, so I took a chance with two of these cameras. I LOVE THEM! I had a bit of an issue getting them hooked up to the wireless router so I called the Foscam customer service line and they took over my computer with a small application and had them working perfectly in less than 5 minutes. I'd going to state that the issue I had wasn't on account of the product, I simply didn't understand the directions, but after watching the CS rep get them hooked up I understood them perfectly... the biggest issue wasn't me or the directions, it was the internet browser I was using. I use Google Chrome and initial set up is best done using Internet Explorer, which is stated in the set up manual and I honestly didn't see it until after the fact. But truthfully, anyone who can use a computer and set up something like a wireless printer should have no issue setting these cameras up. And if you DO have trouble, Foscam is extremely helpful which is a huge bonus!
Day or night the video feed is far better than I expected, the pan and tilt options work perfect and the cameras are 100% silent. I can connect easily from my smart phone or Kindle as well. I have not yet tried the audio feature yet (he doesn't need to hear any more voices than he already does and I don't need to hear him talking to people that aren't there) the only feature I wish it had was a zoom capability but for the price I'm not going to complain about that, especially since other models offer it with a higher price so it was really my choice. I did not order the extra antenna as the span it need to work within is 72 feet, if you have a larger home or multiple floors it may be necessary but in a ranch home the antenna included works great.
Overall, I would recommend this camera to anyone, new parent, caregiver or just someone who wants to keep an eye on their home security. Love, love, LOVE these cameras, thank you Foscam for a great product and fantastic customer service.
I probably expected way too much from this camera but I can say it did not really match my expectations. I expected this to be wireless but I still had to connect a LAN cable to it to get it to work. I also had some hope there would be software that would allow this to work as a web cam, which it sort of does but again, only through a web page. Quality wise, the camera seemed to work fine although kind of slow to initialize. I think better software and to get this to work totally wireless would make this a great deal. Again, more my fault for expectations but if you buy this, you need to make sure this does exactly as you need it to work.
