Does this system record for later viewing?

The Foscam camera does not have its own DVR box and by itself has basic software. This allows it to do a few things, like recording to a PC manually or on alarm (via motion detection), utilize FTP upload, and send e-mail notifications with snapshots of the motion detection. Using third party software like Blue Iris allows you to turn a computer into your own home monitoring system, and in addition, also gives you much more flexibility and advanced features. For example, the Foscam camera by itself, cannot send text messages on alarm. It also cannot record video in different file formats, and cannot record continuously 24 hours a day. These are things that software like Blue Iris can do. Blue Iris also has pinpoint motion detection that offers much more precise detection compared to Foscam's interface, and also includes "zone" motion detection, which can detect motion on certain parts of the live video instead of triggering on a certain part of the video where motion detection doesn't matter as much.
