The main difference is that the FI9821WV2 is a higher resolution and has an SD card slot for direct recording.

Q:

can these cams be used as a wed cam for ones computer ? and if so what else would be needed ? thanks .. Hairman69 does this cam have manual zoom ? and last but not least it the cam color ? or black and white ? thanks

gary k.  asked on  Dec 3, 2013

A:

Unfortunately since this is not a webcam or web camera, it cannot be used like a Skype camera. Foscam cameras are "IP cameras" or "network cameras", which connect directly to your router and have their own built-in web server. You connect to this web server (an IP address) to view the camera from anywhere in the world, think of it like your own personal website URL. Because of this, the camera doesn't work with Skype as it's not something you connect to your computer directly, it connects to your router. It does not have zoom, but has pan and tilt. It is in color.

Q:

In layman's term, tell me more about using Blue Iris!! i.e....droid, Iphone, pc, and how do I access Blue Iris as well as any other particulars you can add!!

george h.  asked on  Dec 3, 2013

A:

Blue Iris is third-party software for the PC with more advanced features than the the built-in streaming view web interface such as scheduled recording and timestamps. Your best bet would be to refer to the developer's website for full details. It is also sold on Foscam's site where you can read more.

Q:

How is this model (FI8918W) different from the previous model (FI8910W) that was sold on Groupon? Can the two different models be networked together? Also, how much is the software "Blue Iris?"

Kent Y.  asked on  Dec 2, 2013

A:

The FI8918W does not come with an IR-cut filter, which comes included on the FI8910W. The FI8918W thus sometimes may offer discoloration of video when sunlight or any type of light enters the lens. The FI8910W offers this filter which removes any possibility of having a discolored image, and also improves on the pan/tilt range compared to the FI8918W camera. Both models can definitely be networked together. Blue Iris Professional is a third party software sold for about $39.99 on Foscam's website.

Kevin L.  asked on  Nov 30, 2013

A:

Yes, the camera can be mounted upside down, and the web interface does include an option to invert the image both horizontally and vertically to appear right side up.

Q:

Do you need to purchase antenna? And if so how does it help or what does it do?

Jessica M.  asked on  Nov 29, 2013

A:

The 9dbi Antenna will add more WiFi signal strength, roughly 20-30ft more. It is recommended if you are using the camera more than 80ft from the WiFi router or if your WiFi router is weak/old.
