If you scroll through the pictures on the deal page there is a picture of how this item drapes over the shoulders. The outer two flaps lay over the shoulder.

Q:

How do you get it to heat up and how many times will it work before it doesn't heat up again? 100, 200, 500?? do we just put it in the freezer for cold applications and how long does it stay cold?

jodi p.  asked on  Oct 14, 2012

A:

As long as you do not break the stainless steel disc, there is no limit to the number of times a pack can be used.
The pad retains its temperature for a period of 30 minutes and up to an hour.

Allison J.  from  Self  replied on  Oct 14, 2012

A:

You have to boil it after each hot use...but yes, there is no limit. The hot application lasts longer than the cold does in my opinion - probably an hour for the hot, 30 minutes for the cold - at its peak temperature that is. I'd highly recommend it though - its the one thing that has helped my chronic aches and pains!

Q:

These appear to be made of plastic--are they filled with gel? How do you heat them without damaging the material?

Michael-Clare  asked on  Oct 14, 2012

A:

The outer shell is medical grade plastic. Since it is self heating it heats from the inside and the outside is not damaged.

Q:

One of the pictures of the product shows an individual pressing some sort of button on the product. What exactly does that do and why is it necessary?

Joseph S.  asked on  Oct 14, 2012

A:

That disc is the mechanism that heats the pad.
By flexing (not breaking or cracking in half) the stainless steel disc, small molecules turn into a solid state which then creates a chain reaction causing the solution to crystallize and instantly heat to a predetermined amount of energy, 130° degrees F.
