About Laura Ashley

Decades before she was a home décor and apparel mogul, 28-year-old Ashley was visiting London’s Victoria and Albert Museum when inspiration struck. A patchwork exhibit sparked her first artistic endeavor: creating geometric headscarves à la Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday at her kitchen table. By the late 1970s, Ashley was selling women’s clothing, home furnishings, and tea towels at more than 70 shops worldwide. The nearly explosive expansion continued, but the quality of design never faltered.
