The term hens and chics is generic in that it refers to the succulent groupings (Sempervivums and Echiverias) that have a mother plant and produce babies (called pups). The variety you receive may vary slightly from what is pictured.

This hearty succulent gets its bird-inspired name from its growing behavior: after a full season, the hen mother plant produces smaller chick plants on runners, helping it spread throughout rock gardens and terrariums. As the months progress, temperature and sunlight changes bring out an array of colors in the plants’ leaves.

Easy to Maintain

The drought-resistant plants don’t need an abundance of water to survive, so you can save the hose for spraying down dirty garden gnomes. The chicks spread on their own without transplanting to form a lush, sprawling bed or fill gaps between rocks.
