About Paul Mitchell

In 1965, Paul Mitchell was a young hairdresser who was making waves in the salon industry—especially with his training. Said one-time boss Vidal Sassoon, “He had something terribly special. He could inspire people.” Mitchell went on to open the Paul Mitchell Cutting Club, where hairdressers around the country would flock to expand their skills with his wash-and-wear hairstyles and sculpting techniques. He later joined forces with entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria to create styling products under the Paul Mitchell brand, most notable of which was the Sculpting Foam. The duo also initiated green practices: they created a self-sustaining, solar-powered awapuhi farm in Hawaii, whose harvest continues to source the company’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger line of products today.

Mitchell’s legacy lives on today not only through nourishing hair serums and sculpting gels, but through the company’s commitment to caring. It was the first to come out against animal testing, and seeks to make the world a better place through charitable efforts. Would-be stylists can also learn their craft at Paul Mitchell Schools across the country.
