The Stella D'Oro is a low-maintenance, easy-bloom perennial and the most famous with gardeners in the country. Many gardeners say their Stella's rich golden yellow flowers with ruffled edges are in bloom practically all summer and fall.
Stella's are great for edging the front of the garden since they're short compared to others. Daylily flower stems (called scapes) are generally much shorter, and grow from a fountain of grass-like foliage at ground level. Daylilies form a mass of thickened, fleshy roots. These unique root systems hold so much moisture and nutrients, the plants can survive out of the ground for weeks.
