This set is of a 1930's gold plated Buffalo Nickel and a 2005 gold plated Buffalo Nickel.

1930’s Buffalo Nickel: The Buffalo Nickel is the most known and collected US nickel. Made to replace the Liberty Head or “V” nickel, the Buffalo nickel was put into production in 1913. The Buffalo Nickel enjoyed a 25 year production run that ended in 1938.
The design focused heavily on Native American tradition, with both a Native American and American Bison as the main design elements.

2005 American Buffalo Nickel: In commemoration of the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition, the President enacted Public Law 108-15 to modify the Jefferson five-cent coin (nickel) to reflect images evocative of the historic expedition into the Louisiana Territory. In 2005, a new likeness of Thomas Jefferson appeared on the obverse with two new designs on the reverse: the American bison, representative of the wildlife encountered by the Lewis and Clark expedition; and a scene of the Pacific Ocean, which depicts the expedition’s exultation on believing they had finally reached the Pacific Ocean after many months of travel.
