Unless using the Intel WiDi feature of the NTV200S, which requires a WiDi-capable laptop, you can use either to activate any services requiring a subscription. The player would simply connect to your internet network and to the TV via HDMI.

Wireless Display (WiDi) is a feature of some Intel-based laptops that allows wireless streaming of your laptop's display. The Intel laptop would need to be WiDi-capable to use that feature.
