Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

How do i know if my vet, or which other vets, will accept this card?

Todd W.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

You can do a quick search at www.veterinarydiscountplan.com/grouponvetsearch.aspx If none of the vets listed works for you, please call your practice and ask them if they will honor the Pet Assure card. You may purchase the Groupon while you are waiting for an answer (and get the lost pet service plus merchant discounts in the meantime). Groupon allows you to cancel for a full refund if your vet does not give you a positive answer by March 1st.

Q:

can you use this at any vetinerian?

ELLEN B.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

You need to use a veterinarian that honors the Pet Assure card. Pet Assure is in all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico and we've been growing very quickly. Currently, about 10% of the nation's veterinary practices honor the Pet Assure card.

Haskell N.  from  Merchant  replied on  Feb 13, 2013

Q:

Could you tell me how this works when you take your animal to the vet? Do you present the card? What if they do not accept this insurance? How do you file a claim, etc.?

Lynn C.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

It’s instant savings! Simply show your card and the veterinary staff will deduct 25% off all medical services, right then and there. You do not have to file any claim forms nor do you have to wait for reimbursement – you get your savings right at the time of service. Pet Assure is not insurance where you file a claim and get reimbursed. It is a discount given directly by the veterinary practice and you need to use one of the thousands of practices that honor the Pet Assure card.

Q:

Does insurance cover guinea pig care

bernice  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

YES, we cover guinea pigs. We also cover horses, ferrets, birds, rats (really!), hamsters, snakes. We even have Pet Assure members with pet llamas and monkeys, and one shark! The only member of the animal kingdom we do not cover? Humans!

Q:

Does this include surgery such as spay/neuter?

Beth W.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

Yes! The veterinarian will discount any and all medical services. This includes the office visit, exams, shots, surgery, dental cleaning & services, spays & neuters, x-rays and any other procedures the vet does.

Q:

What if you have more than 4 pets?

Phyllis C.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

While the regular Pet Assure family plan only covers up to 4 pets, the family plan offered through this Groupon deal is for unlimited pets in your household.

Haskell N.  from  Merchant  replied on  Feb 13, 2013

Q:

What does it mean when you say "must activate by March 1"? Does my pet need to go to the vet by March 1 or does the policy take effect March 1?

Susan B.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

After you purchase the Groupon offer, you need to redeem it from your ‘My Groupons.’ Groupon requires you to redeem it by March 1 but then you can use the card for the next 6 months an unlimited number of times.

Haskell N.  from  Merchant  replied on  Feb 13, 2013

Does the coverage automatically continue after the 6 mos Groupon? In other words, if I don't cancel after the 6 mos. will I begin to be billed monthly until I do cancel?

Craig M.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

No! Your coverage will only renew if you instruct us to renew it!

Q:

How is this better than VPI. Does this cover hip surgery for a Golden?

yvonne b.  asked on  Feb 13, 2013

A:

Hip surgery is covered. Pet Assure has no exclusions. The typical insurance policy can have 200 exclusions, including exclusions for elective procedures, hereditary defects and pre-existing conditions. Pet Assure has no waiting period. Insurance does. With Pet Assure you get instant savings - the veterinary staff provides the discount right at the time of service. With insurance, you need to fill out claim forms, mail them, and then wait/hope for reimbursement. Pet Assure has zero deductibles and can be used an unlimited amount of times. Pet insurance has deductibles and limits. The bottom line? Almost everyone who has Pet Assure saves a lot more than the cost of the membership. Almost everyone who has insurance pays a lot more for the policy than they will ever get reimbursed.

Q:

Are the vet prices inflated using this plan? what 'is in it for them. i still dont know after reading all 90 question and answers if i must take my dog to the vet to activate???

beverly c.  asked on  Feb 15, 2013

A:

Veterinarians have chosen their profession because they care about all members of the animal kingdom. They are the nicest and most honest group of medical professionals you can find. In Pet Assure's entire 17 year history, we have had only 3 instances where a vet was inflating his prices to compensate for the discount. Veterinarians have 2 primary reasons why they join the Pet Assure program: 1) They get new clients. Besides the 150,000 US households that are Pet Assure members, We help veterinary practices with their marketing in many other ways. 2) Experience has shown that Pet Assure clients are better pet caretakers, bringing their pets in for routine care and generally being more receptive to their veterinarian's suggestions as to how best to take care of their pets. It's really a win-win situation. You get quality pet care at an affordable price. Veterinarians see patients with pet parents that take proper care of their pets - people like you, that want the best health care for their pets.

Q:

My veterinarian office personnel said that I can use the Pet Assure card there, but I would have to pay full price and then send in a form and get reimbursed. Is this a valid way to use this insurance? A previous answer indicated that the vet is supposed to take 25% off at their office.

This sounds great, but unfortunately there are no vets in Nashville that are part of this plan. There is one that is a pet hospice, but it's not a regular veterinarian. Do you have any in Nashville that will start accepting it soon that you know about?
