Watches exhibit studied function and superb craftsmanship through details such as Swiss-made quartz movement and crystal covers
Victorinox Swiss Army Watches
No matter the product, Victorinox's designers still champion the values that inspired the first Swiss Army knife: invention, function, and quality. The designs of these watches embody those principles, starting with the meticulous craftsmanship of Swiss-made quartz movement for precise timekeeping. This superb construction also resists water and dramatic fist clenching under pressures of up to 10 ATM. Crystal covers protect the dial from everyday scratches, and they help absorb shock. Such components typify the quality found throughout each watch, extending to materials such as stainless steel, nylon fiber, and aluminum.
With the Industrial Revolution roaring around him, Karl Elsener knew that the humble cutlery workshop he founded with his mother, Victoria, couldn't compete volume-wise with industrial manufacturers. So instead of going big, he went small. In 1884, he started working on a knife that would be as compact and functional as he could make it. Come 1897, he patented the Swiss Officer's and Sport Knife. American G.I.s became enamored of the knife during World War II, bringing it back home and incidentally sparking an international interest.
Today, under the direction of Karl's great-grandson, Victorinox applies its values of invention, function, and quality to timepieces, luggage, fashion, and even fragrances. Yet the Swiss Army knife remains Victorinox's most cherished product. To this day, people still share stories that demonstrate the humble knife's legendary reputation, from saving lives at the last second to opening tins of pudding presumed lost forever after their tabs broke.
