Vivitar TotalFitness Body-Analysis Digital Scale

Step on the Vivitar TotalFitness platform and, like other scales or a freelance carnival guesser, it will tell you how much you weigh. But, as its name implies, the TotalFitness scale also determines other key health-related metrics, such as body fat, hydration levels, muscle mass, and bone density. Up to 10 people can put their basic personal information—age, gender, and height—into the system. Next, the scale uses this info and bioelectrical impedance analysis, a technology that sends a low-level electrical signal through the feet, to take its readings.

  • Measures: weight, body fat, hydration levels, muscle mass, and bone density
  • Bioelectrical impedance analysis
  • Supports up to 10 personal profiles
  • Stores previous five recordings
  • High-precision sensors
  • Step-on technology
  • 4" LCD display
  • English or metric system
  • Operates on CR2032 lithium battery (included)
  • Capacity: up to 400 lb.
  • Dimensions: 11.81"x12.2"x0.9"

The Body fat percent is way off. It consistently measures me with 33% body fat, and says I'm "obese". I weigh 110 pounds and am a size 2. Other devices measure me at about 19-20% body fat. I contacted the manufacturer and said they said they would replace the product, but I'd have to pay for shipping, which would be expensive because it's heavy, which would have defeated the purpose of buying it at a discount in the first place! I was incredibly annoyed. I don't have anything to compare against the water measurement, and frankly have not determined what it means yet. The weight appears to be accurate as I weighed myself next to my old digital scale and would be within a couple ounces. I tested this for about 2 weeks. I ended up keeping it because I simply got too busy to deal with the return, but I no longer use this as a reference for body fat, whch was what I was most looking forward to using.

This product is good looking and the positives stop there. It is so sensitive that my body weight changes each time I step on the scale - and that means immediately stepping on after stepping off. Secondly, I am 5.5 & 1/2 tall. The scale won't let me enter the half inch of height. Finally, the sale insists I am obese. Which is hilarious. Yes, I am densely muscled and that makes one "heavy". People on the street/coworkers observe me to be "fit". My trainer at the gym says to throw the scale away, as it cannot possibly measure fat content and bmi accurately via the soles of my feet.I wish I had not wasted my free card from Groupon on this dumb scale.

The Groupon part was good, but the scale is not. I can't get it to reset some of the profiles for different people. It doesn't seem to change the weight so I have to go to a different person and try to get that to work. And I don't think it's doing anything as far as checking what my muscle or fat composition or hydration is. I drink 120 oz of water a day and it always says I'm dehydrated. It also says I'm obese, which yes, I should lose about 20 lbs, but I can fit into size 10 clothes and it's calling me obese. I don't think it's checking anything with muscle mass - only going by book tables of height and weight for it's "assessment". I can do that without the "help" of a scale...

I was unhappy with this product when I opened it and realized that the scale ONLY measures weight, body fat, and hydration level. I was expecting my scale to also measure muscle mass since it clearly stated in the description that this scale "Measures: weight, body fat, hydration levels, muscle mass, and bone density." Unfortunately, I opened it, and used the scale when I realized it did not measure my muscle mass and bone density, this is why I never returned it. I wish I could though since I wanted a scale that measured muscle mass as well. Also, I would like to add that my product took weeks to arrive.

Great scale, I purchased it over a year ago and only had to replace the batteries until recently.

The packaging of the product was horrible which is groupon's responsibility. The package was ripped and torn when I received it with shipping tape all over it trying to hold it together. The product itself appears as advertised however the scale itself is incredibly inconsistent. I can weight myself three times and get a different weight, body fat % and hydration % every time. I would not recommend this product.

My scale is hard to understand. I followed the instructions to a "T" and it still is not functioning properly...I do like that even though the scale constantly gives me the wrong reading of my weight, the weight it gives me is clearly less than my actual weight...That's the only good thing - providing me with an imaginary weight that I would like to be but knowing that I am not...

The quality of the product is good, but the body weight index seems a little off or unbelievable. For example, I am 5'5 and weigh 138; the scale says that I am "obese." So, as long as the customer has good self-esteem and rational critical thinking skills by knowing that the scale is formatted based on generic formulas; it should be okay. So, I only use the weight feature; I just ignore the other features because I am no where near obese.

The profiling of the BF% (body fat) and TBW (total body water?) are odd. There are three profiles based on the sex, age, height, weight, BF% and TBW% ... "Healthy", "Overfat" or "Obese". I am 54 y.o female, 5ft. 6in., 147lb. and it says I am "obese". Fortunately I know I am pretty fit for my age, fairly muscular and can laugh it off. It could be very disconcerting or traumatic for other people, however.

It's great!! It does read body fat but it's not accurate. (SORRY!!) I get my body fat read by a BMR reading each week and it never matches. BUT it isn't horribly off. It reads it from your feet so it will be off. STILL it's great to keep track of your weight loss (oooooooor gain haha)
