What You'll Get
Submarine sandwiches plumb the depths of the seven seas, seeking treasure troves stocked with meat piles, which mermen greedily hoard and guard with their barbed stingers. Go on a hunger quest with today’s Groupon: for $5, you get $12 worth of time-tested, famous homemade sandwiches at Gioia’s Deli located on the Hill on Macklind Avenue.
The history of Gioia’s Deli is as fascinating as its sandwiches are saliva-inducing. This family-run business occupies a building constructed in 1918 from bricks used at the 1904 World’s Fair. Housed in such venerable digs, Gioia’s passion for quality subs brings a host of inspired menu items to the countertop. The menu starts off with the famous hot salami sandwich (served with cheese and garnish, $7.00), before tempting the hungry eye with a New York Philly beef (with Philly cream cheese, and sautéed peppers and onions, $7.65) and the reputable Salsiccia (homemade Italian sausage with choice of cheese and garnish, $6.75). A variety of other classics fit all appetites and musical tastes, with offerings including the meatball sub, veggie sandwich, homemade chicken and tuna salads, and even Cathy’s homemade lasagna (served with bread, $7.25).
Incredible, honest food never loses its happy fans—a fact that has made Gioia’s one of The Hill’s chief institutions. Get your Groupon and slake your sandwich thirst.
