Great Pizza!! Reminds me of the pizza I had in Italy

If you've never had authentic New York–style pizza, then what you think is pizza might in fact be a cunningly disguised pretzel. Today's Groupon clears up the confusion: for $12, you get $25 worth of pizza pies, drinks, and more at Giovanni’s Old World New York Pizzeria, redeemable at its Land Park Drive and Folsom Boulevard locations.

Giovanni's has been supplying the oft-lauded New York–style thin-crust pizza and other dishes to Sacramento denizens since opening its first location in 2001. Allow melty cheese to graze over pining tongue buds with the crusty mozzarella bread starter ($7.95), before moving on to the meatier terrain of Giovanni's signature Little Italy pie, an ensemble of fresh ricotta, garlic, and spices, that, like the Brazilian soccer team, plays beautifully against giant meatballs atop a field of crispy pizza crust ($17.95 for a medium). The Don Giovanni kick-starts flame receptors with fire-roasted peppers and homemade sausage ($14.70 for a medium), and the pesto pizza exchanges fresh tomato sauce for a robust blend of basil, pine nuts, and extra virgin olive oil ($17.95 for a medium). Formulate theories explaining The Sopranos finale as incisors insert themselves into the Sicilian roasted chicken, a whole chicken slathered in a mixture of garlic, olive oil, herbs, and spices before being fire-roasted to delectable doneness ($9.95). Stacked vegetable and meat lasagnas ($11.95), heat-packing chicken wings ($14.95 for 20 pieces), and sauce-less pizza varieties are also available.

Giovanni's helpful, friendly staff is happy to bring an authentic taste of the Big Apple to Sacramento's sunny setting. Sip on a glass of wine ($3.95 by the glass) or attempt a Giovanni's ale or stout ($3.95 for a mug) and allocate mind matter to visions of old New York, a place where the food was flavorful and you didn't have to pay a meter maid to park your buggy.

This Groupon is valid for dine-in only and is not valid for lunch specials. Valid at Land Park Drive and Folsom Boulevard locations only.

Reviews

Citysearchers awarded the Land Park Drive location of Giovanni’s Old World New York Pizzeria Best Sacramento Pizza of 2005. Zagat recommends Giovanni’s, and Sacramento News & Review gave it 3.5 stars:

  • “An answer to a pizza prayer”, this twosome’s brick ovens produce “out-of-this-world” “thin-crust” pies that come “as close as it gets” to real “NY-style” in these parts – Zagat
  • …the crust was delectably blistery, crispy on the underside and soft and chewy in the middle. The tomato sauce was fresh and light, soft on the tongue, while the mozzarella possessed a strong, nutty flavor faithful to the New York style of using richer, fattier cheese. – Lark Park, Sacramento News & Review

About Giovanni's Pizzeria

Opening their doors in 2001, Giovanni's Old World New York Pizzeria's idea was to serve authentic Italian American pizza, just like what is offered in any of New York's Italian communities. To replicate the thin-crust pies found in New York's Italian-American neighborhoods, Giovanni's chefs make everything from scratch and bake their five-borough recreations atop a toasted hearthstone. They load their slices with layers of fresh mozzarella and an eclectic mix of toppings. Tables, draped in classic red-and-white checkered cloths, buckle under the weight of the pies, including the Coney Island piled with freshwater clams, garlic, and spices.

In addition to baking circular eats, the cooks marinate Sicilian-style chicken in extra-virgin olive oil and herbs before fire-roasting it on the rotisserie. Forks excavate the lasagna's layers, burrowing through strata of imported pasta, mozzarella, ricotta, and housemade tomato sauce, to unearth hearty pieces of meat or veggies. They even serve eleven locally craft beers to choose from and house made cannoli to top it all off with.
